14-01-08 Guitar Effects And Amplifiers Workshop
Gorey Music Centre is presenting a lecture/demonstration on
Guitar Effects and Amplifiers
on Saturday the 17th of January at 3pm.
The lecture/demonstration will be given by Mark Levins and admission will be 20 euro.
All aspects of the guitar effects used today including how different amplifiers affect the sound of the instrument will be covered. The lecture is aimed at electric guitar students at all levels who would like to learn more on this subject. The lecture will last approximately 1.5 hours and will include an open discussion to allow the audience to ask questions.
Mark Levins
He has over thirty years experience playing the electric guitar and has developed a keen knowledge and understanding of the sounds that can be made by the instrument when used in combination with effects and different amplifiers. Mark also lectures on guitar technology and the history and development of the guitar and amplifier at Pulse studios Dublin. He also runs his own repair business for electric guitars and amplifiers.

03-11-08 VIOLIN MASTER CLASS WITH TIMB HARRIS
 PRESENTED BY MUSIC NETWORK IN ASSOCIATION WITH WEXFORD ARTS CENTRE AND WEXFORD MUSIC CENTRE
Applications are now being invited for a free master class with US violinist Timb Harris.
Timb will perform at Wexford Arts Centre on Sunday 22nd February 2009 as part of the Gyan Riley Trio. This performance forms part of the group’s Music Network Ireland Tour, which will also see them play at Carnegie Hall, New York.
The Gyan Riley Trio are leading contemporary and classical musicians who bring jazz and world influences to their sound. Timb is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, performer and recording artist who has worked internationally with many of the world’s leading contemporary musicians. He also has extensive experience in music education, particularly in conducting and the facilitation of musicianship workshops.
The master class will take place from 4 to 6pm on 22nd February and availability is limited to four young County Wexford violinists of an advanced standard. Wexford Music Centre wishes to hear from any young violinists who might be interested in participating. Applicants are required to write with details of experiences and achievements to date, explaining why this master class would be beneficial to your musical development and what you hope to achieve through music in the future. Recordings or other supporting materials are welcome, but applications will not be judged negatively if such items are not included.
All applications should be sent to Jennifer Byrne, Artistic Director, Wexford Music Centre, 3 Rowe Street, Wexford, to be received no later than Friday 19th December.
A limited number of free places will be available for student observation for the master class and these may be reserved directly at Wexford Arts Centre. - JB

23-10-08 Caleb Plays With Osmond Brother
 Caleb Dowdall, a thirteen year old guitar student at GMC, last night played on-stage at a concert by Osmond Brother, Merrill at the Riverbank Hotel in Wexford. Supported by long standing singer, songwriter, composer and broadcaster Mal Pope (who himself was signed by Elton John at the same age), Caleb showed no nerves as he stepped up onto the stage for this auspicious occasion.

15-06-08 End of Year Concert.
Our end of year concert will take place in Camphill Community Hall, Duffcarrig, Ballymoney, Gorey, on Saturday June 28th 2008 at 6pm and 8pm respectively. Refreshments will also be available on the night. Family tickets are €10 and are available from GMC - come along and bring the family!! - JB
15-06-08 (Sort of) Summer Holidays
 The school will be closed for its annual Summer break from Saturday June 28th 2008. However a limited number of individual lesson slots are still available for those who would like to continue their tutorials throughout the Summer months. Preferential time tabling in September will also be available to those students who take part in the Summer term. - PJ

15-05-08 Children's Trad Group is Expanding...
 The Children's Trad Group, under Yvonne Curran, has being doing exceedingly well since its inception earlier in the year, and is expanding rapidly. If you or your child is interested in learning traditional musical instruments, or would like to join a trad group for young people, please contact the school. The group meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m.
